Norbury Wharf · Shropshire Union Canal

Relaunch – Not

A bit of a disappointment, Hamwih was supposed to be delivered from Aintree boats to Norbury Wharf to be put back in the water. We were told that the boat would be leaving the yard between 10am & 11am. It should therefore have been at Norbury at about 1pm.

We arrived at 1pm and saw the crane on site, but no boat. Had a bit of lunch in the Junction Inn, but still no boat at 2pm. At 3pm got a message that the boat had left the yard at 12:45 and it should be arriving soon. About half-an-hour later another message informing us that the lorry, delivering the boat was about an hour or hour-and-an-half away.

This would have meant the delivery taking place at about the same time as Norbury Wharf was closing, but the staff said they would work on to get the boat in the water. Just before 5pm however another message to say that the lorry had punctured a tire and wouldn’t be able to deliver the boat. It now looks like delivery will not be before Friday, which scuppers our plans for a trip to the Crick boat show.
